I have always loved law television drama series, I must admit The Good Wife, How to Get Away with Murder and Suits are some of my favorites, I swear that most of the law terms, legal precedents and citations I know are from them. Who knows, I’d probably be a lawyer in my next life. The law profession has always had a conservative suave and finesse to it, it sharpens your mind, strengthens your resolve, exposes you to a theory and practical approach to laws and powers of the society, helps you develop a variety of skills like reading, research, presentation, critical reasoning, complex logical arguments, and writing. There are good employment prospects, with an array of specializations, and above all it commands respect amongst your counterparts (or should I say “learned friends”)

To gain acceptance into international law schools as a Nigerian student, you must familiarize yourself with requirements such as:

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university with a grade point average of 3.5 and above
  • Entrance examination scores such as LSAT, LNAT, etc.
  • University transcripts
  • Preliminary school certificates i.e. WEAC, Year One undergraduate transcripts
  • Previous work experience or internship in a law firm
  • Personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Evidence of involvement in extracurricular activities i.e. clubs, organizations, leadership positions
  • English language requirements, i.e. IELTS, TOEFL, PEARSON iBT
